Note From the Pastor;
Concord Missionary Baptist Church is located in Morris County. However, the church was founded before
Morris County was formed. She began her ministry back in 1857 and has been busy serving the Lord
ever since. No, this is not a record for longevity in the great state of Texas, but it does show what God
can do when people are committed to the cause of Christ. I have been pastor of this great church since
1993. What makes being pastor of this church so meaningful to me? I was born and raised just across
the pasture from the grounds and facilities called Concord Missionary Baptist Church. Throughout my
youth, I cannot remember a time when Concord was not an integral part of my life. I was saved at the age
of 15 in the same auditorium where I now weekly proclaim the name of Jesus. I played the piano and led
the song service while a young member of this great church. I can remember listening to the
whippoorwills as they would sing in the spring time. I can remember being a part of some great
congregational singing with four-part harmony. Now, I have the privilege of being the pastor of many of
the saints that I looked up to as a young boy. Yes, many of these are my twice blood family–related by
blood and by grace. Yes, many of these saints have gone on to be with the Lord during my time here as
pastor. That has been difficult for me at times when I have preached funerals for those who have
touched my life and made such an impact. When I was just a boy, Concord was only a one room facility.
That one room housed six to eight Sunday School classes at the same time, with no one being bothered
by the other classes. Now we have multiple buildings where teachers present the name of Jesus to
young and old.
GOD IS SO GOOD! There have been many tremendous servants of Jesus who have
passed through the doors of this church. Concord has been an important part of many people who are
serving the Lord across this great land that we call America. Our church has made an impression on
many people, and she continues to serve as an inspiration to community members. When someone
drives onto the grounds of Concord, the first thing that they will notice is our church sign with three flags
hanging from poles. Displayed on our church sign is the testimony that we are a missionary Baptist
church. That sends the message that we are a conservative Bible believing and teaching church. We
believe and teach that Jesus is the
ONLY way to heaven and that heaven and hell are literal places.
Those three flags let visitors know that we are proud to be Christians, proud to be Americans, and proud
to be Texans. Also, when one drives onto the grounds of Concord, they will see a new
educational/fellowship building. Within the walls of this building, our members enjoy a lot of teaching and
fellowship. Our auditorium was built in the early 1900s and we are registered as a historical Texan
landmark. Is Concord proud of these buildings? Yes, because we realize that God has been so good to
this church for many years. As pastor of this great church, I love these grounds and buildings, but I
especially love the people. I can truly say with a humbled heart:
I’M GLAD TO BE THE PASTOR OF
CONCORD PROCLAIMING THE NAME OF JESUS!
Come and visit us. I can almost guarantee you that
we will make you feel welcome. It’s great to be the pastor of Concord Missionary Baptist Church.
